Pros

Some people are great to work with. Some potential for career growth/development (getting exposure to systems you normally wouldn't in other organizations). Some great relationships can come out of it. Learn what *not* to do.

Cons

Everything starts from the top and trickles down. The IT department is seen as a line-item expense on the balance sheet, not as an enabler of opportunities. If you are not part of the "management boys club", then you are a mere minion. Management definitely lacks leadership and people skills. Management only cares about themselves and how they look to their "clients" (the partners'). Looking good means saving money and maintaining a lean operation. Employees are burnt out - too much to do, never enough time, unforeseen issues always arise, very little (if any) planning, "just get it done and worry about it later" attitude, static/unreasonable timelines, lost headcount is rarely replaced. If something wrong happens, someone is going to get burned for it. Displacement of responsibility (i.e. blame) is common. It is no surprise no one wants to take responsibility/ownership of anything. No transparency. Poor communication. No one ever knows what's going on. Very little opportunities to move up. Very "top-heavy" (management:employees ~ 1:3). Do not foster a "promote within" mentality. Employees are resources that are easily disposable/replaceable. Mentality with technology is so risk averse that it actually moves backwards.

Pros

Some (not many) of the colleagues are truly competent, so you can learn a lot by working with them.

Cons

The company is like a chiefdom with the chieftains (partners) fighting for the same business with each other - very little internal cooperation. Partners have no leadership skills or strategic thinking, the only strategy the company has is to grow revenue and to become the 'envy of all' (which by the way is not a strategy, more like an overall vision). Some partners have even gaps in their knowledge of their own subject matter. Partners are very skilled though in saving money in employees' salaries, working conditions etc. People who get ahead in this organisation are those who behave like the partners, not the ones with the smartest, innovative ideas or the best quality of work. Also face time is highly valued even if not productive. There is a lot of talk about the company values but they are openly violated all the time. Worse than KPMG in other countries.

Pros

1. A good learning ground with opportunities to gain exposure to different industries 2. Lots of young people - good for meeting people and making new friends 3. Numerous firm and department bonding activities 4. Clean and well-equipped working space at the Mobility Hub for staff who are constantly on the move 5. Culture of friday night drinking sessions 6. Numerous non work-related courses at subsidised rates organised by the Rec Club 7. Our own clubhouse with a pool table, foosball table, kinect, darts, board games, and food and drinks at subsidised rates

Cons

1. Inhumane working hours - staff work more than 16 hours per day continuously over a few months, including weekends and public holidays, during the peak period. No time off in lieu is given. 2. Poor eAudIT software - extremely buggy, constantly hangs, and reduces staff efficiency by 50% or more. 3. Lack of control over quality of work - most of the time, staff have to follow-up on incomplete and poorly done work by another staff member. 4. Lack of control in planning for personal commitments - as a junior staff member, you are not told in advance when you have to work late. You are expected to always be available to work overtime when needed. 5. High turnover rate with a lack of effort to replace staff during critical periods - remaining staff get squeezed to the limit as they take on the workload of resignees. They eventually quit and a vicious cycle ensues. 6. Unable to enjoy Christmas (you will most likely be working) and New Year's Eve/Day (you will most likely be plotted on a stock-take). 7. No time to participate in the activities and courses organised by the Rec Club 8. Poor compensation relative to working hours - no overtime pay, no 13th months bonus, variable bonus for the last financial year was a mere 1.5 months. A 4.6% firm-wide pay-cut was carried out in 2011 to 2012.
