Pros

Good salary; good benefits; smart people; good training; good clients

Cons

The "Great Place to Build Your Career" works if you have just gotten out of school and want to "pay dues" so you can move on to something else. If you have an established career outside public accounting and come in as a manager, it might be a bit different. The culture doesn't lend itself to new ideas and innovative business practices. Anyone coming in with ideas about how to more efficiently manage projects and engagements (i.e. automation, resource utilization, benchmarking) may not be seen as trying to help the bottom line. There also seems to be a lot of subjectivity on performance reviews especially during hard times. It gives the appearance of trying to "paper the file" when reviews are used to justify layoffs.

Pros

Great career opportunities, had tons of interviews after i left the firm, still looks great on my resume, learned a lot

Cons

We typically worked a lot of hours, sometimes were thrown into a new industry and new clients and expected to know stuff right away.

Pros

Lots of experience and exposure from the beginning. Management was somewhat willing to work with work/life balance. Good place to start.

Cons

Management should have been more understanding with life changes. There's an expectation that you'll put the firm first, and everything else second, not matter what the issue is. There's a lack of effective communication from management on performance, often times performance evaluation seemed to be based on how well liked you were, and not actual performance.
