Pros

Can work on something that gets used by people every day. People that you get to work with, internally and externally, challenge you and makes your work better. Variable pay is a good thing when times are good.

Cons

Global structure and interaction means a lot of regular late night conference calls with people on the other side of the world. Not as many engineers running the show as there used to be.

Pros

Three reasons I enjoy working at Intel - great technology, great people, great company. This place is filled with bright and energetic people who create really cool stuff. The ideas, innovation, drive and creativity of Intel employees is astounding. It's invigorating to work here. Intel's innovation has literally changed the world. The combination of the company's financial track record, corporate social responsibility and environmental practices are unparalleled. Sure there are things in the work environment that need to be improved and updated. The good news is that senior leaders know this and are working on it thanks to open channels of communication and a very in-touch human resources function. To sum up my experience of Intel as an employer in one word I'd say: integrity.

Cons

A perpetual challenge at this large multinational company with employees in over 60 countries is building and developing relationships with co-workers on virtual teams. Another downside of working at Intel is watching the company miss opportunities that were within its grasp. For instance, because of Intel's position as a component supplier to the PC industry Intel has sometimes failed to benefit from its innovation. As an example, years ago Intel came out with an Intel branded MP3 player - this was years before the debut of iPod players. Undoubtedly company strategists had the right idea and were ahead of the market, but they pulled back seemingly for fear of alienating downstream partners. That was painful. On the bright side, the company learns from its mistakes.
