Pros

The overall product line is second to none - overall. Easy to get an appointment and to have the customer to listen to you. You have the ability to sell all products as a generalist or specific products as a specialists. Specialization can be in hardware (Servers, storage, etc.) and in software (middleware, such as data management and business intelligence, web servers, application development, systems management and security) and services (IT services that are hardware or software centric; or business servcies, such as consulting, systems integration, application management, systems outsourcing, business process transformation or business process outsourcing). There are other more detailed specializations.

Cons

Pay is not as good as it is with competing firms.

Pros

And endless scope and area to develop a person career. Unlike many competing company where career area available for changes and availability to do so. Many competing company do not have breadth and depth of areas to work on. For example.. if one wishes to pursue career in an another area, this company is where it will provide ypou options to learn and try different area. It is highly encourage to learn and explore. Where-as the competing companies make it difficult to move from one position to another with same company. IBM is like a min country within. Its upto an employee to make or break..most of the time.

Cons

The biggest one being is the salaries, they tend to be at 80% of the market level.. which for some is a significant gap. If IBM were to narrow this gap, then folks may stick around more.. but then there maynot be more position available. Other downside is, the company being so large, its like an elephant when it comes to responding to market needs/situation.

Pros

Exposure to a variety of top level clients, working with dedicated, intelligent people, company opportunities for variety of work. Ability to join communities of interest in topics such as Agile, SOA, etc. Opportunity to work with teams, both co-located and virtual. Ability to take on leadership roles if you want to. Online education at a basic level on a large variety of topics. Benefit benefits package including medical plans, 401K, etc.

Cons

keeping up the billable hours, administrative policies are sometimes too clerically focused and could be simpler, some jobs require 100% travel.
