Pros

Its a good name to have on a resume. IBM is still one of the top international corporations.

Cons

IBM is a faceless corporation. All promotions are determined by individuals who do not know you and most likely have no idea what type of work you actually do.

Pros

The best reasons to work at IBM is the fact that they are very flexible when it comes to work/life balance. There is a culture that allows for employee recognition. There are company events that IBM pays for like BBQs and company outings to sporting events. Also they have a new hire network that helps those who are in their first 2 years with the company. That program offers outings to movies with discounted prices for tickets and popcorn and also there are other outings to local resaurants that offer appitizers and drinks on IBMs tab. There are opportunities to engage in improvements and change is usually openly accepted.

Cons

The transparency and fluidity of communication is sometimes lacking. The organizational structure is matrixed which leaves room for ambiguity on who is in charge and what needs to be done as far as who is responsible for tasks. Alot of times people pass the buck to others when trying to get to the bottom of a solution which leads to inefficiencies and somtimes leads to going in circles when trying to get to the bottom of a problem. Another disadvantage of this organizational structure is that sometimes when working with other IBMers it is difficult to work with them because they are only looking out for their own self interests. A competetive atmosphere is also a catylist to anti teaming.

Pros

It will look good on your CV. You will hopefully meet some of the many excellent people that work there as technical consultants. When IBM gets it right, and the huge teams that they put in front of customers start working together, then the results can be awesome.

Cons

Not all people are treated equally - for example, sales people are generally treated with total disrespect, whereas consultants and holders of domain expertise are treated properly. When the client teams don't work together (more often than not) then you had better be in the stronger camp or you are toast. Expect to spend the best part of 30% of your time fighting your own organisation.
