Pros

I am currently at IBM STG co-op. IBM has given me the opportunities to explore the possibilities available to me at IBM. I work with very knowledge people and the work environment is very dynamic and supportive. I am comfortable, and I learn a lot about subjects that one cannot learn in school--which is the most valuable type of experience needed. I am given responsibilities that affect the company going forward, and IBM empowers me to do my best by giving me all the tools I need to succeed.

Cons

The only downside is that if IBM does offer me a position it will not be outside my co-op area. I wish I would apply for other positions else where in the company internally. The only downside so far.

Pros

Big name company, looks good on resume; such a large IT organization means vast knowledge resources you can tap into, if you can find them; virtually any IT job exists at IBM, somewhere

Cons

Constant, incessant push to offshore as much work as possible; totally detached middle and upper management pushes layer after layer of counterproductive process downwards at the same time they demand ever-increasing efficiency from workers; constant annual chipping away at or elimination of benefits; huge ongoing effort to offshore as much work as possible; work-life balance is a joke, not even paid lip service any longer.

Pros

resume builder, experience, ability to learn from others. The benefits are very good, hands down. The 401k match is the best in the consulting industry. You will be able to learn a great deal in a very short time frame

Cons

very large, too bureaucratic, managers with poor people skills. There are a good number of managers who are out to benefit themselves and no one else. They get bonuses based on their staff utilization and meeting numbers. Many IBM employees are just numbers to the staff. Its all about who your manager is at IBM. Bad manager = bad experience. Good manager = good experience.
