Pros

Good place to start, having name on resume opens a lot of doors. Don't stay more than 4 years. Management really pretty good about giving you time off for family/personal issues. First-line managers really seem to appreciate empoyees, very limited in their abilty to do much for their employees.

Cons

Way too stifling, way too much NIH (Not Invented here), too proud to realize that other companies passing them by, too bureucratic to change what's necessary to turn the boat. Unless you were there through the heydays, compensation totally inadequate and doesn't even come close to keeping up with competition. (That doesn't change much with organizational advancement, either.) Make sure you get a good salary on the way in, it won't change much, regardless of your oerformance.

Pros

for the name, everyone know ibm is one of the biggest company in the world. The environment is rather relaxing as compare to other small firms. There is basically many people for one task, which is good for a relaxing working environment. The pay and benefits are okay. it's a really huge company, almost everyone know it.

Cons

company too big. Since it's a huge company, you won't get too learn as much, cuz you will be assigned to a very specifict task. IBM is also not as prosperous as it use to be, so it's does not have much potential as those startup companies.

Pros

The choice to work from home or the office offers a great amount of flexibility especially for women and men. Respect for work life balance issues is prevalent in most organizations. IBM is such a large organization that there is a tremendous amount of job opportunities to branch out. Throughout my 20 years at IBM, I have held positions in Manufacturing, Development Engineering, Marketing and Sales, with the ability to parlay job history and skills aquired into the next job. The colleagues I work with are competent and the management team I work for is respectful and appreciative of the effort that I put in for IBM.

Cons

IBM is a highly matrixed environment, at times, it is confusing who has the lead. It is a large organization and there is competition within product lines and services groups. Without strong leadership looing t the bigger picture, it can get very disheartening to work at IBM. In addition, because it is so large, it frequently takes time to find the right person or right organization to address a question/problem.
