Pros

Systems and Technology group has some of the best and the brightest working on leading edge technologies. It is a pleasure to work with these people and keep up on the bleeding edge of what is going on in the computer industry. I have certainly learned a lot in my time in STG, and continue to learn on a daily basis.

Cons

producing more powerful computers means that you sell less to replace existing ones. Unfortunately, the cost of the new machines generally isn't 2x the cost of the replacements - hence lowering revenue. In order to meet corporate expectations, cutting costs by reducing headcount has an impact on what can be developed and what can be sold. It becomes a vicious cycle, low sales due to diminished products, which in turn leads to lower head counts.

Pros

It is a big name to have on your resume.

Cons

The management constantly lies to the employees, there is a lack of communication, people are regularly fired just to keep the vitality curve going. If you can survive in th environment you can make some money, but don't fool yourself your time will come when you a classified as redundant. You might even find that you are training your replacement so that you can become redundant. It is a great place to get a name on your resume, and can be decent if you survive, but make no mistake the focus of the company is to find something wrong with you so they do not need to reward your performance.

Pros

Training programs were very good. IBM puts alot of money into training for their consultants. It was a good place to work in the begin of my career because they had lots big clients and projects. The system implementation methodologies that they employed was very good and delivery and customer service was key. This served as a point of pride for me because I felt that I could tell people I worked for IBM and it gave me instant credibility. IBM also had a very good mentoring program while I was there. You were assigned to one senior mentor and it was this person's responsibility to make sure you were on the right track.

Cons

There was 100% travel and it was very political
