Pros

Vacation time if you've been there a while. I used to be able to work from home but IBM is canceling all work at home policies, so there's not much reason to stick around.

Cons

Poor management that provides little direction. The "matrix" environment creates several bosses you have to report to and each boss is in a different organization with different goals. It's truly a case of the left and right hands not talking to each other and putting staff in the middle to make both sides happy. Career development is not a focus and certifications are not encouraged. I've tried to transfer to other positions and management would never provide me a release date; even though HR policies says there's a 90 day maximum hold period.

Pros

IBM is a very stable Company, that provides great f lexibility to get the job done. IBM has Industry Leading Products, in almost every facet of the Computer Industry, including hardware, software, services and support. You can make a good living at one of the most respected companies in the industry and world-wide for that matter. Like most companies there are pockets of really goods management that understand the sales role, and work very hard to help you achieve success.

Cons

IBM is becoming such a services oriented company, that it is losing focus on the things that make IBM great. The stability of the company is largely a reflection of its workforce. The consulting mentality of hiring on ofr a short stint until the next big opportunity come from another company, has changed the way it treats its core workforce. Mobility continues to be a double edged sword - great for flexibiltiy, tough on sense of community and teaming. There are a lot of great tools IBM has invested in for online and we b based communications, but sometimes nothing beats the office to hash out some ideas or approaches to solve a customer's issue.
