Pros
-> If you have contacts / godfathers / father-in-laws at higher levels then you climb up the career ladders pretty fast -> If you are the kind of person who likes bribes, lazy attitude, uninterested in working hard, this is the company to join -> time bound promotion for the first 13 years in ONGC -> cannot be fired for non-performance -> performance appraisals can be made favorable by sucking up to bosses rather than any real work
Cons
-> engineers relegated to performing tasks suited for technicians -> salary high for a fresher, however in 4-5 years your peers in private sector overtake you -> too much bureaucracy that will drive you crazy -> upper echelons of the company totally corrupt and inefficient -> staff level employees assume it is their right to be lazy and inefficient -> backstabbing and politics based on caste, religion and region in every project -> woeful lack of technology that puts the company to shame compared to international operators
