Pros

The Mathworks is a very well organized software company. I worked there for over four years. The founder is still very active and cares dearly about the company. The company hires a lot of smart graduates and has a very methodical approach of ramping up these newly hired employees to get them ready to join other parts of the company. All in all, a very well run company. The company pays special attention to training their employees not only on technical matters but also on non-technical matters such as negotiation skills and presentation skills.

Cons

There is some level of complacency because of the lack of a strong competition. Required improvements or features are not put into a product as fast as it could be. Back when I was working at The MathWorks, there was a lot of conflict within a portion of development team, but there did not seem to be a swift action in addressing the conflicts.

Pros

The company places a strong emphasis on continuous learning and professional growth, with clear encouragement for employees to develop their skills over time. There are frequent, fun company events that help build connections across teams and contribute to a genuinely friendly and collaborative culture. Overall, the organization takes a very staff-focused approach, prioritizing employee well-being and fostering an environment where people feel supported and valued.

Cons

With a globally distributed workforce, it can sometimes be challenging to coordinate schedules or connect in person with colleagues.

Strong work-life balance; reasonable hours and low burnout Smart, helpful colleagues and collaborative culture Stable company with solid products (MATLAB/Simulink) Good benefits and campus perks (food, gym, etc.)

Cons

Development pace can feel slow and process-heavy May not be ideal if you’re optimizing for fast career growth, cutting-edge tech, or top-tier compensation.
