Pros

Excellent Management Openly communicates status of work prospects and status of competitors Very knowledgeable staff 9-80 work week with paid overtime Vacation time can be accumulated and cashed-out if layoff occurs, so that employees can build their own "severance" package with accumulation of "time-off-with-pay" Good project control group and monthly project review by Sr.Mgmt ensure projects don't run off-track. Excellent training opportunities

Cons

Leadership gives preferential assignments to people they like, not necessarily due to qualification or seniority. In past several years, increased focus has been on grooming future "emerging leaders," staff that show Management potential. This can cause negative attitudes and have negative impact on morale of all those who are under the Leader. True competitive advantage this company has is in its ability to manage very large & complex projects, so low margin straightforward projects will be lost to lower bidding companies. As with all EPC companies, layoffs will follow as billable work drops off.

Pros

Good for starting and ending a career in engineering — solid training and plenty of software available. Good benefits and WLB.

Cons

Most projects are PreFEED, so lots of generic work, and they tend to overhire for these projects. It’s hard to make it to the middle ranks here because of the overhiring and layoff on contract loss cycle. The 980 schedule is actually meant to be a 10-hr day, as they began to emphasize the importance of taking lunch. TOWP and sick days are lumped together and earned on an accrued basis, so vacation days are valuable in the beginning. You can be paid your vacation days at the end, too, when your salary is higher… the consequence is that people come in sick all the time.
