Pros

Heavily org dependent. But some teams particularly, in Card, are doing cutting edge tech work. The offices and subsidized food are very nice! Co-workers are mostly data driven and not drama queens.

Cons

Heavily org dependent. But the common theme is ongoing job instability. Which is a HUGE distraction. Enterprise tooling reflects the talent of the folks there. I have not come across folks more indifferent to their customers, even if they're "only" internal. The attrition rate is 12-15% every SIX months. Cap One is full and they just acquired Discover and Brex. Now is not the right time to join the company. Hiring freezes up to the director level signal that. "Invest in yourself" where last Fridays of the month would be off, is gone. And with that the bargain cap one made with the labor market of lower wages (relative to the giants) for a relaxed work environment is out. Now you get the grind culture and stress of the giants without the pay. It makes little sense to continue employment here when there are better opportunities.

Pros

Some of the smartest individuals in their fields. The focus is always “forward” and the company is willing to adopt new tech to stay ahead for the purposes of the company’s (key word there) benefit. Great PTO and benefits.

Cons

The company’s drive to keep itself moving forward has caused it to regress in other aspects. As a leading tech company first, and leading bank second, it’s embarrassing what their stance is on hybrid and remote work. The company can easily accommodate remote options for their employees not near main offices, but chooses not to. I am relocating to a major city with no major CapOne presence and their response was “too bad, either fly up weekly or you’ll be terminated for not meeting the hybrid requirements”. It’s embarrassing because most of my week is remote anyways. I wonder how many current and past employees have been impacted, and I’m worried about how much talent they’ll be pushing away in the coming years.
