Cons

In my time at Adobe, the company has lost its culture and direction with every passing year and with each new management/leadership hire that brings a new level of scrutiny to what only feels like the sales team, as opposed to the entire team working together. The marketing function has been stripped so thin in an attempt to prove productivity, that it's benefit to those on the ground is nearly negligible, and is having a significant impact on the business' ability to scale. Account development has again been stripped bare or outsourced, and the brunt of this is again being felt by the sales team. There is very clearly a 'crew' and if you aren't in it, you will not be successful in any element of your role, or how you are reflected to the business. Internal promotions are given with no review of qualifications, nor with any view to the contribution of those employees, or how they will contribute to the culture or strategic priorities of the business - promoting a culture of 'its not what you do, it's who you know'. From a company that started out with a vibrant, team culture, it has quickly eroded to a numbers game, whereby your value to the business is evaluated via a number of metrics on a spreadsheet - many of which do not pertain to your actual achievement against targets. Again, with each year, targets are raising by ~40% despite reduced patches, increased competition and sensitive market conditions. On top of this, patches are changing every 3-6 months, making the likelihood of running an enterprise sales cycle very low. Furthermore, sales plans are being 'adapted' every year to increasingly pay/reward teams LESS for bringing in more to the business via a reduction in payment metrics for compensation. I would not recommend moving to Adobe.

Pros

* Refreshing focus on employee wellness * Brilliant colleagues * Compelling problems on interesting tools * Good work/life balance culture... generally (see cons) I've been at a few big tech companies and Adobe is one of my favorites. I feel empowered to make impactful changes here, I'm constantly stretching myself in fun ways, and the products we make are incredible. Product and engineering have big dreams, and all the resources we need to realize them.

Cons

* Big time crunch culture around arbitrary goals By far my biggest disappointment has been just how hard product pushes on big projects with arbitrary deadlines and difficult scope. It turns into cutting corners and delivering sub-par experiences even though we absolutely have the talent and capability to make some exceptional things if we just let the dang thing bake a few more months. I'd be more impressed with the tight clip if the goals were reasonable for good business reasons, but as far as I can tell the reason usually boils down to "some high-level manager wanted X and thought Y sounded like a good target date". * Comp growth leaves something to be desired. Raises feel pretty flat, though it's not the worst thing since stock rewards can be pretty good as appropriate for performance. Career progression is pretty good here too - I just find it odd how stale the base pay increases are year to year.
