Pros

The opportunities are really quite excellent. As someone who has recently graduated, you will rarely be able to get the kind of exposure to senior decision makers at some of the top companies in the marketplace. While your role on the team may be purely administrative and you will find yourself working 60-hour weeks regularly performing grunt work, the client exposure is tremendous. If you keep your ears and eyes open, you can certainly learn a great deal about the industry that your client is in. Deloitte is a good resume builder and it pays to start your career with this organization in order to benefit from the client exposure. Another benefit is that one will routinely get exposure to work that the client's staff prepare and this work is usually prepared and reviewed by fairly senior members of management (Controller, Manager of Financial Reporting, Sr. Financial Analyst). If one is a new grad, getting access this this work will enable one to learn how the client's organization operates and one will gain exposure and understanding that is usually possessed by those who are at least 3-4 years ahead in their careers. This is a great resume builder once again because one will be able to obtain more senior positions in industry companies (sometimes even client companies) because of the exposure that one had to the work product of the role they are applying for.

Cons

Non-existent work life balance and poor management. Promotions and not merit-based.

Pros

MBAs start as Consultants or Senior Consultants. The career path is Senior Consultant ? Manager ? Senior Manager ? Partner. It takes approximately 3 years to be promoted from each level, but early promotions are available if the candidate is ready. Deloitte, like other consulting companies, uses an up or out career strategy, where if they feel that you will never make the next level, you will be asked to leave the firm. Deloitte does not allow an employee to sit at one level for their entire career. They employ an up or out strategy to ensure that promotions are handed out timely.

Cons

Work life balance is difficult. You are asked to work a lot of hours depending on the client needs. If you are working in ERS, you are also asked to work a busy season for 4 months out of the year. During this period you are forced to work a minimum of 50 hours a week. However, many people work more than 50 hours during this time period. You also cold spend a lot of time traveling to various locations for client work. However, management does try to be very flexible and accomodate your personal needs as much as possible...
