Was good as EMC, now just ok as Dell-EMC

Pros

I worked at EMC for over eight years before we merged with Dell. I enjoyed the culture and liked working there.

Cons

Leading up to the Dell merger, it was all about the numbers. No one really cared about the customer in the end. They just wanted to save money.

Pros

The pay ks competitive but its becoming less and less relevant

Cons

As the Dell machine takes huge bites out of the EMC culture, bonuses have been cut from once a quarter to once a year and are being decreased by half. Pay raises are negligible (2%) and now we can't carry over personal or vacation days. Perks for people that travel are being erased to the point of Architects are bailing at an alarming rate. Health benefits are being cut as well this year. I assume if you're used to Mr Dells heavy handedness you're fine but anyone who are legacy EMC are being screwed.

Pros

Good benefits. Flexibility to work from home. Great team at the ground level. Great collaborators on the teams I interacted with cross-functionally. Basically, a great place to work at the individual level and one or two managerial levels above. I worked for the Isilon Storage Division. The people I worked with are/were passionate and quality-focused. They built great relationships with other teams as well.

Cons

Isilon was acquired by EMC and then EMC merged with Dell. Prior to the Dell acquisition, our team was cited as an example for other teams to model and our content strategies were adopted by other teams. After the Dell merger it became clear that our contributions were no longer understood or valued. I was laid off by someone who maybe knew my name and salary. My direct manager wasn't consulted in advance. I can't recommend working for a company that makes decisions based on criteria that's unrelated to skills, contributions, value, and knowledge of the product. No job security here, regardless of the quality of your work.
