Pros

Dell is a good place to learn. There are so many people you can kinda hide out. You can find some great co-workers that will let you wallow in misery together. I'm trying to be constructive here, but it's not the same place I started working at over 5 years ago. At least in non-transactional sales you get a decent amount of time off for holidays.

Cons

Compensation package has really gone down the tubes. Very unrealistic expectations coupled with severe penalties for not hitting are very demoralizing (anything under 90% means you loose a LARGE portion of your total compensation). Managers completely have their hands tied and can't do much to help their reps. Finally it's no fun anymore, people don't like coming to work.

Pros

- Focused on execution with growing channel business and improved product offering - Good data gathering about the business and market analysis - Compensation is reasonable - Open communication among staff

Cons

- No career growth. All leadership positions are held by expats. The president is expat from US; all his direct reports VPs are expats and most of the VP's direct reports are expats. Dell spends US$25-35M/year just to pay for their housing, childrens education, tax equalizations, misc (excluding salary). Dell has been here in Australia for 15+ years but it has never had a local GM, they have always been from the US. - Management Communication with Staff: As all Leaders comes from US they have lack of understanding about the region and do not invest in building any relationships. - Mentoring, Training & Growth: Again as most leaders come here with a short term mindset they are not focused in developing staff or building relationships. - Work Life Balance: In 2006 staff was laid off and not a single expat was turned to local package the line managers are now doing more work then before.
