Pros

Plenty of opportunity to learn and explore areas of technical interest Tools, equipment, access to labs are all excellent High quality engineering team Decent recruiting process Several internal opportunities to explore technical and managerial interests

Cons

Ego driven management contributes to long term weaknesses in competitive abilities in key technical and business areas Maniacal focus on patent generation results in the production of several useless and redundant activities in the technology creativity process Unnecessarily hierarchical organizational structure for a company of this size and scope as compared to others of similar size in the semi world. This results in bureaucratic inefficiency when it comes to having certain routine tasks executed.

Pros

1. Opportunities to specialize in certain block designs or gain experience in many different blocks 2. Analog team is absolutely world class 3. Great CAD support 4. Satisfaction of seeing designs make it into final product

Cons

1. Too many cliques, based on university & nationality which can affect promotions 2. BRCM is now a mature company, therefore a lot of work involves upgrading existing designs.

Pros

relatively higher compensation compared to peer companies

Cons

Cold, not the weather, but the people. About 2 dozen engineers were hired in 2006~2007, more than 50% left the company in 2008, either was squeezed off or laid off. Because that team was merged from a startup, in sake of their own job security, the job related engineering information is not well shared among team workers, especially to new employees. They expect the new employee cannot guess out their old things, then give the new guys underperformance in review and squeeze them off. Intense office politics and high turnover rate.
