Pros

At times the overtime can be great if you like to work a lot. Also you have great co-workers here that make the job easy on you and fun at times. Its a very interesting job with a lot of room to learn more and try to earn more money. The general workers are represented by a union so it helps out a bit, although the union could use some work.

Cons

Just like a lot of places, you have up and down time, and when it gets slow there is always a possibility of lay offs. Also management at times likes to play around with company policies to screw you over.

Pros

Good job security, fair chances to secure funding for projects, genuine interest in future of company at most staff levels, realistic expectations of work loads.

Cons

Inflexible work attitudes, highly ethnocentric (male-German) perspectives, surprising tolerance for superficial platitudes ("managerese"), poor support for career changers in most departments. Uninspiring and often unprofessional management style. No genuine interest in real further education for staff. Arrogant #1 attitude in many departments. Very old fashioned company culture. Ridiculously fickle bonus system.

Pros

BASF is a huge company and has many different fields of expertise. The company does not like to layoff workers and will try to find employees a new job if for some reason a plant is shut down.

Cons

Best qualified employees within a plant not recognized. Management would rather take a chance on a lesser qualified person than promote a person who has already proven themselves in the same position. Many times different schedule surveys have been taken and no matter the results, managments still forces their schedule for employees to work while they still keep their comfy Mon. thru Fri. day shift. Employees home life is no concern of management. Instead of training able bodied employees you may be forced to work extra hours to keep the plant running. Hot and unbearable temps in the summer months, and management has no idea of what goes on outside their air conditioned offices. Most days in the summer they will not even come out of the air conditioned areas of the plant to tend to problems on the floor.
