Pros

Large, stable company, good benefits (not the best, but above average), good spectrum of products. Upper management is good. Average to good training programs that have improved over the years. Good place to start a career, not finish.

Cons

Oppressive mid management in the ag sector. Lots of corporate bullying in ag sector. Regularly runs off workers over 55 by closing good territorys for "business reasons" which makes it harder to file discrimination suits. Lots of "lip service" on important issues that drag the company down. Micro manageing limits free thinkers and creativity. They are happy with being average and not the best in a competitive market place.

World leader in catalyst production

Pros

Technically very strong. They have experts for almost everything technical niche, but they are mostly based in headquarters in Germany. As part of the world's largest chemical company, there are many career opportunities outside of the catalyst division.

Cons

BASF struggles with poor customer service and account managers. They fail to develop the close personal relationships that are key in any business. Customer service is hindered by complex systems which make delivery of products painfully slow. The influence of the German culture is very apparent. This can be both good and bad.

Pros

They gave me a job after I was laid off from my last job in April. My coworkers are helpful and the pay is decent. I worked at my previous company for 25 years so having friendly coworkers helps make the transition easier.

Cons

Company is huge and management doesn't have a clue as how to organize everything. I am a technology analyst and am good at what I do. However, at a new company you need some help to aclimate yourself to your new environment. Also the commute is brutal. While I live and work in NJ my commute is just way too far. I am learning there is very little chance of job advancement. I recently got my license in another area and I am currently working on my own business. Once it takes off I am moving on.
