I was initially brought in based on my experience and product knowledge, the first thing I should have realized is that I was happily working away, despite asking for feedback none was provided. The hours were long, 7 till 7 mostly. I worked on projects that were critical but as a member of a larger team responsible for execution. After working at AMAT for more than 4 years, within 90 days of a new role I was falsely accused of being the cause of a delay in an project, this was another group's responsibility. When I challenged my male manager, I was subjected to a foul mouthed, series of screaming insults in front of my co-workers. This behavior prompted me to complain to HR. HR did nothing except tell me that that particular manager has "had some issues with other female employees before". There was no follow up from HR or the manager except for them to explain in great detail that I was in fact failing in my position. I would have accepted that had I been given any feedback to support this and if they had evidence indicating that I didn't perform all of things expected of me and more. The issues raised where again the responsibility of others or tainted versions of the truth. I complained again to HR which intensified the abusive backlashing I was continually told I was failing and was removed from my project and told to wait tell they found something else for, and I sat for 3 months begging HR to investigate why I was being treated poorly without cause and what work was I suppose to do while my manager took away all of my projects. Again complaining to HR, asking why if they admitted this manager had issues with abusive language and behavior, why nothing being done about it. Didn't I have clout I been at AMAT more than 14 years in total. Each time I asked for HR's help, the level of abuse direct at me intensified, I was treated like a criminal. I was essentially beat down to feel like I had done something wrong when the abusive manager was left undisciplined in fact supported by this management. Certainly PM roles at AMAT are hard work, long hours and constant pressure but this coupled with an abusive work place is unacceptable while being a voted a top ethical World wide company?
As I said females beware, don't believe the hype about the drive to promote women or develop strong women in the company, you'd need to get past the abusive male locker room mentality first. It is sad that this once great company suffers from these kind of behaviors. I was lucky as I chose to leave without the humiliation of being laid off, I can only advise others to do the same.
