Pros

The knowledge level, professionalism and commitment of the IT staff is very high, good people to work with. Compensation can be very good.

Cons

Management can be somewhat arbitrary, IT often seen as a necessary evil, not a value add to the business. Constantly fluctuating silicon industry makes for a roller-coaster effect, things are good when it's up, bad when it's down. Heavy use of off-shore "outsourcing" makes strong team building difficult and a significant amount of re-work.
