Pros

The compensation is very good compared to other places in my area. The leadership at my particular office is great and reasonable. You work with a lot of very smart and talented people. My manager was one of the best managers I've worked with.

Cons

The work is more complex than any previous place I've worked, which for me translates to more stress. Working with Amazon's suite of sometimes documented internal tools and libraries can be frustrating and working with them means less career-valuable experience with open source tech. There is not a lot of autonomy or iteration for my team -- our projects are handed down from above and planned up front. Working with certain types of HR questions can be a real headache, as phone calls go through a call center where it's easy to get shuffled around to different teams without your problem being solved.

Pros

Can learn with modern aws/dev tools. You can have talented engineering peers. Or not. Depends on the team

Cons

Heavily political. Spend more time managing politics to convince nontechnical people of things than engineering the right solutions

Pros

Compensation is good and affords me a comfortable life.

Cons

I don't trust that my managers have a coherent vision or strategy. Amazon is such a big company and there are many great managers and leaders across the company. Unfortunately, there are also many managers that seem just as lost as the entry level and mid level engineers.
