Pros
-Good base pay. -Seattle is a decent town to live. -If you like working 10 hour days and on weekends, this is the place for you. -Ability to impact the business (if you don't get fired first). -Some very smart people to work with.
Cons
Although Amazon is full of really smart people, I think the smartest people realize how dysfunctional the environment is and get out quickly. The money isn't worth it in the end. If you don't drink the Kool-aid immediately you will be fired. 30% of my team was fired in one year (they were usually escorted out while we were all at team meetings and we weren't allowed to talk about their departure). In fact, they don't like you to criticize at all. I was told by my manager 'if you don't like it, find something else'. So I did. In addition, I was asked to sign an agreement when I left that I wouldn't sue the company or speak ill of them. Very interesting. If you make it past your one year anniversary, it means you care more about money than your health and personal life. This was the most under-resourced operation I have worked in. The teams are trying to scale with no additional resources. Most folks i know at work are seeing therapists and on meds for anxiety. I would avoid this culture at all costs.
