Pros

Good medical and dental benefits. Stock options

Cons

Management does not have a clue what they are doing. Impossible productivity expectations with high unreachable standards that management can't even maintain. HR needs to do their job and stop branding people who are pointing out to them the real issues that face workers on the frontlines. Being customer centric is great but the company must learn to maintain the people who help make this company so great. I been with the company for seven years and I cringe to think wat seven more years would be like at the rate the company is going by not investing more into their employees

Pros

I've been here over 12 years and have had the opportunity to build all kinds of elaborate systems that changed the company. The early days were quite demanding, but the satisfaction was immense. I'm still challenged, but at a sustainable rate. The growth curve is like few other places. I interviewed an old mentor from HP 5 years after I'd left. I felt he'd atrophied, but the real deal is I'd grown tremendously. Most jobs (I'm sure there are exceptions) use strong, current technologies. We clear the table and rub two sticks together to make a fire. As the smoke starts to generate, we may notice we've moved a pack of matches- but alas, we know this fire and where the hot spot is. Keep rubbing the sticks together. This is also a competitive advantage, tight integration w/ every other piece of the system.

Cons

It's clearly not for everyone. If you want tenure based promotions, silo org'ed structures, find a job somewhere else, and count the days to retirement. There is a bit of a libertarian angle on many decisions which doesn't bother me. It is getting very large.

Pros

If you can get away from the legacy technology there's a lot of cool new stuff being worked on, and the people there are generally brilliant and passionate. It's a good place to learn a lot about technology and best practices.

Cons

Your job has to come before your life -- beyond the dreaded pager rotation, people routinely work evenings and weekends at home, and in general you need to have your head in the job 24/7. Amazon has a deservedly bad reputation for how it treats low-level employees, partners, and basically everyone it does business with. Not a place to work if you want to have a warm fuzzy feeling about your employer.
