Great people, questionable leadership

Pros

Multicultural environment, and very flexible work environment. Some really great technology to support customers, and an impressive customer base. Benefits and pay were good, but not a lot of room for pay growth after you've joined.

Cons

Not much of a future for North America unless a competitor fails. Almost all of their recent market share growth has been due to external factors, not the company's efforts. The last big win was Southwest, and they promptly fired the guy who won that deal. Company moves at a snail's pace. Important decisions sometimes take months and years to make. Still using some of the oldest technology known to mankind. Blackberry and Lotus Notes were obsolete five years ago, but not at Amadeus. Expense reports require receipts taped on all sides to a sheet of paper, mailed to Miami, and manually reconciled for eventual approval and payment. Ever hear of scanning or an expense management system? Just about everyone hired into a senior position during the last three years or so came from a competitor, many bringing their former company's culture along for the ride. Company says it has a vision, but it's poorly communicated and executed once it gets to the director and senior manager level. Objectives for the year routinely wouldn't be set until March or April, and even then it was probably because it would hold up paying out the annual bonuses for managers.

Pros

Sunny place, coffee bar, nice location, decent place to retire

Cons

Old fashioned company, where innovative people are held back. Come to Amadeus, if you want to be picked on by the clique, if you want to be put down and not given any real opportunities. Come if you want to be lied, backstabbed and made you feel and if you have no experience in your profession. People are afraid, there are strange unspoken rules, and if you dare to question them, then you are in real trouble. The contract is a 35 hours per week, but in some dept you work an average of 37. Not being enough that you work in excess of your contracted working hours, should you need to leave 30 minutes earlier, you must apply in writing to your manager. I have worked there for three years and I am glad that I have finally left. Just to emphasise my point: In less than 3 years there is been a turnover of 14 employees between full-time staff and contractors just in my former department that counts some 40 people! At interview level, they are really nice but they lie a lot to you in order to have good negotiation power. Be aware of anything being said to you, you will find out only when you have moved to France, signed the contract and few weeks into your new employment. For example, at interview stage, I was told that the probation is usually 7 months (not true) but what I was not told that I cannot take paid holidays until the end of the probation, nor sickness, so each time I needed time off I had to take unpaid leave. Finally, beware technical writers before you leave the Uk for this much sought-after sunny destination. You will probably regret it.

Pros

okayish salary; free food; other employee benefits

Cons

No travel. Poor management Here, all nonsense ppl travel to france like a personal trip of theirs...where a bunch of 5-6 idiots are sent abroad while a developer sits in india doing coding. Even after asking repeatedly for a onsite, he/she is told that they will be sent on need basis. God knows when that need is going to come. You can see managers and team leads travelling for no reasons and when you ask them for a onsite, or a knowledge transfer, they tell you to have a video conference!! While the same rules do not apply for them. They make sure they travel atleast once a year grabbing all possible opportunities of others in the team. Really a sick management. Sick HR team. Sick policies. Overall, sick work. Frustrated to the core. De-motivating environment.
