Pros

Building helicopters is an interesting industry. The company is small enough to allow access to all parts of the operation for those who are interested.

Cons

The biggest downside is the French management and their caste system mentality. If you are not a French ex pat, you can forget a senior level career with this company. Pay and benefits for equivalent title and responsibility jobs are dramatically greater for French employees than for American employees. An inordinate amount of time is spent in meetings; in 25+ years in corporate America, I have never seen so much time wasted in meetings that accomplish nothing. I also experienced more arrogance from senior management and French ex pats than I have ever encountered. The rules simply did not apply to them. Information and knowledge are not shared.

Pros

It's space related, and it's big - so there are good projects to work on and lots of opportunity for relocating to other sites (if that is your thing). While management is bad, the actual employees are very friendly and good to get along with.

Cons

Management lives in a different world from the engineers! Often engineers on projects are told to prioritize administrative work over the actual project work. Human Resources work hard to impede anything, don't trust them for a second! Totally open-office concept (except managers) makes it very hard to hear yourself think.

Pros

Because developing commercial aircraft is the only thing you want to do in life. And you absolutely want to work in Europe, nowhere else. Then Airbus is certainly your best bet. Indeed, there aren't many other bets.

Cons

If you are an engineer, you will most suffer low morale. This may seem odd in an industry built on the back of engineering creativity. Indeed, you will hear Airbus senior management and recruiters bemoan the fact that they can't recruit enough suitable engineers. But the reality is, They want mediocre engineers, prepared to produce mediocre work, and satisfied with mediocre reward. They will SAY they highly value engineers. But their actions bely their words. There are bright spots. Some local departments are very well led and managed. But even excellent managers cannot protect you from the stifling bureaucracy. A few people do seem to thrive in the environment, and have meteoric career paths. But they are not the norm.
