My mission and vision statement
> 1st stage: GD Since we were around 150 candidates, they made 10 batches consisting of 15 candidates in each batch for GD. We were around 15 candidates in a GD room. They verified our documents 1:1 and later everyone settled on their respective seats. We were asked us to speak on the topic “The present Indian education system should have a common syllabus, common universities or not and how it can be developed”. The Navy officer gave us 15 minutes to the group to discuss on the topic. Some of the spoke well and some of them didn’t utter a word. Finally 6-7 of them were selected out of 15. I was one among them. * The main thing we need to concentrate on GD is (on my experience) take an initiative to start to speak on the topic, give chance to speak for others and concentrate on how you speak instead of what you speak. * The main thing what they look upon the candidates is how confidently you speak well and how you can grab the audience attention towards you. The other GD topics given to other batches were, > Internet is a boon or bane to the country. > Women empowerment. > Should India ban pornography websites? > How can we develop Indian Economy? Only general topics will be given and not the topics which is related to religious or political issues. And around 60 candidates cleared the GD out of 150 and others were asked to leave the hall. Now 60 candidates were asked to get ready for Personal Interview after the lunch break. After the lunch break the personal interview was scheduled. There were 4 Navy officers and each of them conducted the interview to all of them. This was 1:1 interview. > 2nd stage: Personal Interview I was allotted for the recruitment commander (Captain) for the interview. Me: I wished him good afternoon sir. Captain: Yes, please take your seat. Captain: Your name is Venkatesh , what do you mean by your name ? (This question was common to all of them of asking the meaning of their name) Me: It’s god name of Lord Venkateshwar. Captain: What good things have you have done by keeping god’s name? Me: Gave some incidents and explained bit about it. Captain: Tell me about yourself, where did you do your schooling and what were your marks, why did you join mechanical engineering? Me: Briefly Explained. Captain: Why do you want to join Indian Navy and why Navy only? Me: Explained well. Captain: Tell me 5 differences b/w Petrol and Diesel engine? (Since I was from mechanical stream) Me: Explained. Captain: Tell me, how does Spark plug work in a petrol engine? Me: Explained. Captain: Explain me how do a Refrigerator and Air-Conditioner work? (Since I had taken Refrigeration and Air conditioning as my elective during 6th Sem) Me: Explained him the construction and working of it. Captain: How does Ship float on a water? (Related to Fluid Mechanics subject) Me: Explained him about Buoyancy force and Archimedes’s Principle. Captain: Tell me the neighboring countries and their capital. Me: China, Bhutan, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Srilanka and their capital. Captain: Okay Venkatesh, Thank You. Me: Thank you Sir..! The other questions asked during the interview were, > Name the coastal states of our country? > Strength of Indian Navy i.e., How many air craft carriers, Nuclear submarines, Destroyers, Frigates, Patrol vessels, Number of people working. > Name the President and Prime minister of neighboring countries. > HRD, Finance, Home, Defense ministers of India. > Tell me about yourself (A common question to all the candidates) > Why do you want to join Indian Navy (Compulsory question to all the candidates) Before attending the interview just go through the Indian Navy website and do Wikipedia regarding strength of Indian Navy, concentrate on current affairs, GK and Technical subjects (for mechanical engineering students) like Engines, Turbo machinery, Fluid Mechanics, Heat Transfer (because these are the subjects which is more applied to the maintenance & working of the Ships). After everyone finished their interview the Navy officer told us that candidates who have cleared the personal interview would get a call letter to attend SSB through e-mail, SMS or post. Waiting for the results..!!
