The first problem (2 hours) was a mix of very straight forward questions (the typical “why do you want this job” sort of thing) and rather more interesting “how would you respond to X” ones - in particular I think the last two questions were testing for something quite specific and very valuable, that I’ve not seen tested before in these sort of questions, but which any experienced hire should spot easily. The other two problems in this first batch each had 1.5 hour time limits, both concerning essentially the same specific aspect of the role. The second batch of problems comprised 5 more problems, total allowed time of 8 hours. They were far more diverse, in part covering the same aspects of the role as the 2nd & 3rd questions in the first batch but both more broadly and in more detail. One problem was essentially similar to the first batch in what it seemed to be testing for; two boiled down to “here’s some data, draw some insight from it”; one concerned a key aspect of mobile app design; and one that concerned a topic that everyone knows at a qualitative level, and that anyone who studied any science, technical, or social science at university took classes in, but which most people (including PMs for mobile apps) don’t specifically use on a routine basis — I extemporised before concluding with something along the lines of “this is a very well researched area, if I needed to do it in the real world I’d look up a proven solution”.
