      Upstream Research Analyst Interview

      Oct 23, 2012
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Houston, TX
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Wood Mackenzie (Houston, TX) in Aug 2012

      Interview

Their interview process was divided in 3 phases. First I was asked to complete a numerical assessment, consisting on answering about 15 questions in 18 minutes. Two days later I had a behavioral interview over the phone. The second phase was another interview over the phone which was a little bit more technical. Third phase consisted on an assessment day from 8am to 1pm on their Houston offices. This was the toughest part. In general, their staff was very friendly and this made the whole process easier, although I didn't get the job.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

I was very well prepared for answering almost any question they had. I think that the hardest part of the assessment day was the technical interview, consisting basically on energy finance topics such as valuation and financial strategies in the oil & gas sector.

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Wood Mackenzie (Houston, TX)

      Interview

An overly-long interview process for a middling-level position. It was nearly a full day's length, involving multiple sessions, many of which felt either poorly-attuned to the specific position, or just simply redundant.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

How much does the average oil/gas well cost to drill?

      Interview

Phone interview followed by SHL numerical assessment. In person full day assessment consisting of an essay (why WoodMac? And energy related topic), HR interview, technical interview, presentation on a case and group presentation. Most stressful was the group presentation.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Tell about a difficult team you worked with. Tell me about a project that went well. How to design a DCF for oil well.
