I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Tesla (Amsterdam) in Jan 2017
Interview
I was approached by a recruiter from Tesla regarding the role and agreed to have an initial conversation.
We had a half hour video interview in which the recruiter asked me some general standard questions. When I asked more specific questions on the company, the culture, the values, the challenges, the answers were vague and too general. Also the recruiter was constantly distracted by other things on the screen i guess, as there was little engagement or enthusiasm to sell the job to me.
A few days after that, I had a second interview with someone from HR. The assistant who scheduled the interview only called me, and then forgot to send me a confirmation message with the details of the interview. I had to call back literally 2 hours before the interview to check if it is happening and with whom.
Also a 30-minute interview, quite surprising to have 2 half hour interviews in a row. And the second interview was voice only.
Out of the dedicated 30 minutes, almost 10 were taken by the HR person for self-introduction, which is very nice of course when you have 60 minutes available. That left me with barely 20 minutes to talk about my experience, which I did summarize and answered some additional questions. It felt like we are rushing and there was no time to discuss more in-depth my skills, the expectations from someone in that role, again the questions on the company culture and struggles were answered in a very generic manner.
So based on these 2 short and superficial interviews, the conclusions were that I was not fit for the role. When I challenged the recruiter on the procedure and the fact that they drew conclusions from a short phone interview, the recruiter was again not able to bring any sound arguments.
Overall, a very disappointing experience already at the interviewing phase. More than enough to show that this company has a great product, but that's all it has. It lacks organizational leadership and professionalism.
