I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Tesla in Jan 2018
Interview
Only phone interview. On the positive side, the employer responded very fast at the beginning: a time for a phone interview was set up within a day of my application. The phone interview itself was a letdown, likely for both of us for a number of reasons.
1. The interviewer had not seen my resume nor had it in sight during our conversation. The first factual questions (who do you work for now and what kind of X experience do you have) were answered by my cover letter and I believe we both felt like we could be wasting each other’s time just upon hearing each other.
2. One of the questions were “what are your known for” and I could not get my interviewer to have it defined: by whom or in what situations. Not that it would help me a great deal: asking my knowledge of other people’s impressions of me calls for a great deal of speculation and I think it is inappropriate for me to speak for everyone else. I know what my employers, peers and clients had said about me to my face and during performance appraisals but their constructive and specific feedbacks do not answer a broad question like this one. Instead I tried to answer “I HOPE I am known for XYZ” and I don’t think it went well. To my interviewer it was an answer to a different question. To me I sounded pretentious. I think it was just an ineffective interview question that solicitates pompous clichés.
3. The questions were generic and the interviewer was very brief. I learned nothing about the organization, the branch, the position or the person I was talking to, which is disappointing.
I have not heard from the interviewer.
I love what Tesla represents, but I am also currently being considered for a similar position by another industry’s lead company. So far, their selection process borderlines enjoyable. The difference in company cultures could not be more evident.
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Tesla in Jan 2019
Interview
The person that was going to be my boss interviewed me. His boss randomly walked into the meeting and took over. They were both nice, I wasn't that nervous, chill company culture.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Tesla (Los Angeles, CA) in Apr 2018
Interview
I attended a hiring event first. At the event, we broke up into groups of about 5 and did group interviews. Then, people were selected to go on to the second round of interviews, which were one on one via video chat.

Interview
Brief phone interview followed up by an hour long phone interview. Very quick process and very straight forward. The interviewers were real people within the company. I was interviewed by a district manager.
