I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Lightspeed (Montreal, QC) in Aug 2021
Interview
It started with a screening call with the Talent Partner to get all the necessary info about the job and prerequisites.
After that, an hour chat with the Engineering Manager to get a feel of the vertical/squad.
The next meeting was a chat + live code session with the tech lead. Nothing too stressful or anything, more of a peer programming experience to assess capabilities and the way I was thinking.
Once I passed that stage, I had a great tech chat with the lead dev but we also talked about how the day-to-day is or non-work-related things.
Finally, one last call with a Senior Dev Manager for the fit and tech check on some high-level notions.
At the end of the process, the Talent Partner in charge of my application took back the lead for the offer or any questions I would have.
It is also worth mentioning that there is a Talent Guide who helps you with any admin/scheduling needs along the way.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
- Some general questions about backend development, hybrid apps development and frontend
- Describe how I would implement a certain feature the interviewer presented me with
- Live code a credit card form in React Native and how to handle state + validation on that form
- What is my knowledge of CI/CD/AutomatedTests/
QA
- What is my knowledge of Docker
- Some behavioural questions about certain situations I have been in in the past (code or non-code related)
The process starts with an initial HR screening call followed by an interview with the hiring manager.
The hiring manager was late and seemed completely unprepared. He asked almost nothing about my resume or my iOS experience, so I had very little chance to showcase what I actually do.
Much of the interview focused on repetitive situational questions. He kept rewording the same question over and over, even though I had already answered it.
Clearly, he did not have enough material to fill the full hour. After about 30 minutes into the 1-hour interview, he just opened it up for me to ask questions.
The impression I got was that iOS development is clearly an afterthought at this company. That aligns with the low reviews and ratings across their apps.
I have done a lot of interviews, and this is the first time I actually felt frustrated enough to write a review.

Question 1
Situational questions. Also, asked me what makes a good CI/CD pipeline, and how I'm using AI at work.
very friendly recruitment staff. They made the interview process very personable and enjoyable. 1 recruiter call, then take home assignment on swift, then explaining the take-home assessment, then behavioural interview.

Followed by an In-depth interview about the professional experience and a System Design challenge
Then the technical interview focused on technical experience followed with a fun and thoughtful live coding session
And the final interview with behavioural analysis and situational questions.
All the interviewers are super friendly and helpful in getting into the conversation and information was bidirectional.
