      Software Developer Interview

      May 12, 2019
      Anonymous employee
      Dublin, Dublin
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 12 months. I interviewed at HubSpot (Dublin, Dublin) in Feb 2019

      Interview

Interview Steps: 1. HR Screening 2. Take home project 3. Video interview with team lead (Boston) * Before I could progress any further, HubSpot had hired for the position 4. HR reached back out a year later (re-screening) 5. Video interview with team lead (Boston) 6. On-site for 4x interviews 7. Interview with Director and Chief Marketing Officer I had initially been interviewing with HubSpot in January of 2018, but unfortunately, the position had been filled before I could move into final rounds. In January of the following year, they reached back to see if I would be interested in picking up where we had left off. I really admired the fact that HubSpot had kept me in consideration that amount of time and truly set them apart from other companies. Disregarding the year pause, the process was rigorous with a lot of interviews, however, my HR contact was excellent in providing me with speedy feedback from each of the interviews and constantly helped me understand the nature of the upcoming interview. I was given a detailed brief of who I’d be interviewing with, their background, what the interview would likely entail, etc. This was immensely beneficial and I haven’t experienced anything like this with other companies. The interviews focused on culture fit as much as a technical skillset. Career progression, growth and continued learning where the key factors I was looking in my next role and these matched up closely with core values at HubSpot. For the technical interviews don't expect any trick questions, pretty much all the questions have been detailed within these reviews. The role I was interviewing for was primarily a JavaScript position, so make sure you know your ES6 and core fundamentals of JS (hoisting, scope & context, async behavior) all of these we quizzed in an informal way. Thankfully I was over prepared for the questions that were asked and was reasonably confident I had done a good job.
Overall my experience interviewing was extremely positive and I really appreciated knowing exactly what I was going into in each and every single one of my interviews. When I received the offer, I was told that there was an increase in the salary as I had performed quite well interview which was another really nice gesture.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

I was given a mock-up design and asked to implement the interface (HTML&CSS) and told to build as much as I can in 10 minutes.

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through college or university. I interviewed at HubSpot (London, England)

      Interview

I went through several rounds, including an initial screening, a technical assessment, and follow-up interviews. The process was well structured, but I found the technical part challenging because it required both problem-solving and clear communication under time pressure. The interviewers were professional, and the questions were relevant to the role. Although I did not receive an offer, the experience was still valuable and helped me understand the company’s expectations better.
