There appears to be a prevailing mindset among some organizations that individuals seeking employment should first subject themselves to undue pressure, discourtesy, or even humiliation — as though their desire to work somehow justifies being treated as inferior or subordinate. This toxic attitude implies that a candidate must prove themselves not just professionally but submissively — as if they must first demonstrate a willingness to be treated as a servant rather than a skilled, thinking individual. Such behavior reflects not only a lack of respect for the candidate’s time, talent, and dignity but also a flawed organizational culture that places hierarchy above humanity.
