      Senior Frontend Developer Interview

      Jul 9, 2023
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      London, England
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at E.ON Next (London, England) in Jun 2023

      Interview

This was the most disfunctional interview process I've ever experienced. I was approached by one of their recruiters on LinkedIn. We set up an initial introduction call and quickly moved to the next stage which was an interview with a hiring manager. The interview with the hiring manager was a relaxed conversation about previous experience and how I approach different situations. After that there was a technical interview which is where things started going bad. The interviewer was late to the call, only asked basic questions such as "Have you worked with library X?" and basic use cases of React features, but still somehow he had made up his mind about me being unfit for the role within 15 minutes, but still he made me spend the rest of the interview asking him questions rather than ending the interview there. I am a developer with over 10 years of experience, and 5 years of React experience. Throughout the whole interview he seemed strangely fidgety and distracted and it felt like he wasn't even caring about my responses. He had only been at the company for less than 2 weeks and I later was told by the recruiter he was actually a contractor, so I don't get how he was put in a position of interviewing candidates and answering questions from candidates. After speaking to the recruiter about my experience they then suggested that I do the interview with someone else, which I apprehensively agreed to. The alternative technical interview was much better, with questions that actually dug into my experience and ways of working and this time I progressed to the next stage which was a live coding challenge. I was provided with a brief for a take home less than 48hours before the interview which didn't match what I was told and didn't really give me enough time to juggle it with other things I had going on. After checking with the recruiter I was told that I could either complete it before the interview or during the interview which I felt was odd. I had a read through the brief and some of the requirements were unclear so I decided to do it during the interview. More than 2 weeks have passed and they are still not giving me an offer or a rejection. Everytime I chase for at least some feedback I get a different excuse and the promise that they will have an answer within the next day but that never happens. I just gave up. I don't know what games they're playing but I see it as a giant red flag and moved on. They should show some more respect to their candidates, especially after so much time has been dedicated to the process.
