Visiting NYC for 3 weeks for IVF at Weill Cornell(255 Greenwich st ) – best areas to stay with kitchen , easy public commute, reasonable rent?

Is NYC still worth it if you're single and mid-30s? Between being frugal throughout my 20s, living in cheaper cities, and some investments that have done well, I'm pretty financially well-off on paper, but I don't earn a super high wage (TC is ~$225K). I feel like my youth is running away from me and I'm intrigued by the idea of living in NYC, but am worried about the COL. Are there good middle grounds between Manhattan and a commute that still are fun for single 30-somethings? TIA!

I work in midtown near. 55th. Looking for a one bed around 3-3500. How bad is the commute from NJ or Astoria. Also looking around Manhattan ( mainly anything downtown/ mid town and open to upper west or east). I would like to be close to things since I have friends that live all over ( Brooklyn, west village etc) but also want a bigger place
