Pros

Flexi time scheme is very good and being able to go home early on a Friday really helps with the work/life balance

Cons

salaries and treatment of people is inconsistent. People on lower grades earning more than people on higher grades. Also new starters are given significantly more money than current employess doing exactly the same job and then expected to train them. Career progression is virtually impossible, they are quite happy to let someone do a job of a higher level and not get the promotion and salary to match. That said if you work in the right department, have a good manager and your face fits you get better treatment. Some people are ridiculously overworked to the point where its made them very ill but little or no concern is shown, then there are others doing absolutely nothing and get away with it. Talent is not recognised. . People of lower levels are not respected at all. The only way to get any respect is if you work a 50 hour week and are a senior manager. HR are useless, if you have a problem you get listened to but don't expect anything to be done. Its best not to complain if you are being vicimised as it just causes the bullies to get worse and they gradually wind you down until you are forced to resign. Morale of the staff generally is extremely low. If you are young graduate you will get looked after and encouraged to progress. If you are older and been there a while you will be invisible. They spend too much money on making the offices and the site look good when they should be spending it on looking after the staff and paying them a decent wage

Pros

Good company with good people

Cons

If you want to progress in the company, forget it. They would rather pay more for people outside the company than promote from within leading to dissatisfied and low morale staff

Pros

Currently on the Graduate Scheme at MBDA and have been at the company for, just over, 6 months; the learning curve has been steep but worthwhile. I, personally, feel that the Graduate Scheme is excellent and would recommend applying to anyone who finds the industry interesting and relishes a challenge. The ECP (Early Careers Programme) team take a keen interest in your development from the outset with numerous welcoming, networking and training events organised in order to give you the skills to hit the ground running. The training events continue throughout the year to allow for continuous improvement and development. These are only limited by your own participation and willingness to learn. Furthermore, professional qualifications are fully supported and paid for leaving no financial burden upon yourself, moreover, as a reward your salary is kept in line with market value. A little incentive as you endeavour to achieve the desired results. The graduate scheme also offers rotational placements which will help you gather a plethora of knowledge and see more of the business, which will make you a more rounded and versatile person afterwards. Plus, it will also give you an indication of the role/tasks you prefer to be in/on. Whilst in each placement you’ll be given responsibilities like any other member of the team. The work will be challenging and demanding but if you’re passionate and interested in your work then you’ll reap the benefits. You’ll also be supported on your route through the graduate scheme by a buddy, mentor, fellow graduates and people working within or outside of your team. Due to the nature of the industry and business there is a wealth of experience and therefore knowledge, which everyone is willing to share whether that be through general advice or explanations surrounding topics/tasks that encompass their expertise. Other reviews may say MBDA is against change or lives in the past, whilst this may be true, in my experience I have found that people are more than receptive to ideas of change, as long as they make the process more efficient in the long run. In fact, I’ve often been challenged to find more efficient ways of completing a task. Additionally, MBDA offers a lot of benefits outside of the scheme which include, but are not limited to: • Social clubs – Football, Golf etc. • Flexi-time – MBDA firmly believes in work-life balance. • Extra-curricular activities – Charity events, open days, working with local schools, guest speaking etc. • Secondments – Opportunities to work abroad and sample different working cultures. • Launchpad – Lists the various benefits available (Cycle to work etc).

Cons

The only drawback I have found in my time at MBDA so far is an industry wide problem regarding the nature of work. Given the secrecy it tends to a bit of a conversation killer when someone asks where you work, what you do, what are you working on?
