Pros

Name looks good on resume. Work is very secure with a long term contract. The work enviroment is non-threatening and work life balance can be good.

Cons

Many restrictions on work make completing tasks difficult. Limited access to the wider computing enviroment due to security restrictions. Systems support is below average. Pay has lagged the market

Pros

Great benefits package (especially the 9/80 workweek at many locations, gives you every other Friday off). Company has a stable backlog of business in many different sectors (mostly defense), which hold up well even in a sagging economy. They have a very strong focus on ethics and doing the right thing. There is a great program for new college graduates, or if you've been working a long time, its also a great place if you just want to specialize in a certain discipline. Lots of emphasis on leadership development also, and lots of great training is encouraged in many different areas.

Cons

Since most work is on Government contracts, the work can be highly structured, and there are many procedures to follow.

Pros

Lockheed Martin Space Systems provides high-tech, challenging work to its engineers in the software, systems, electronic, mechanical, thermal, optics, and other disciplines. Lockheed Martin Space Systems provides company-sponsored training, both technical and non-technical, to their employees. Lockheed Martin Space Systems will reimburse education costs for job-related technical training and job-related advanced degree programs given by accredited universities and colleges. Course-work may be completed on-campus or on-line. Lockheed Martin Space Systems provides good medical and non-medical group insurance and retirement benefits to its employees. Lockheed Martin Space Systems provides its employees modern (although sometimes not state-of-the-art) tools and equipment in the work-place.

Cons

The size of the work force at Lockheed Martin Space Systems is highly dependent of the whims of Department of Defense spending. The technology that Lockheed Martin Space Systems develops is high-tech, but it is also old. The first 5 hours of over-time worked each week at Lockheed Martin Space Systems is gratis to the company. After working the first 5 hours, of over-time, you can be paid for additional over-time worked if your manager approves. Lockheed Martin Space Systems does not cash-out excess vacation accumulation. Also, you effectively forfeit any earned vacation while you hold the excess accumulation (i.e., you don't accumulate the earned vacation).
