Now I'm sharing this for one manager only. I worked under her and it was downright nightmarish as she had double standards only for me. It makes me wonder how she became a manager. For me, she just bullied me all the time despite my colleagues never getting the same treatment. Some of the things she did was:
- She expected me to be on time, not even accepting me to be 5 seconds late and heavily scolding me at one point when I was 5 minutes late due to traffic. However, my colleagues were allowed to come in as late as an hour without her saying anything.
- Unreasonable expectations. How exactly am I supposed to get through my SEO research when you mentioned I had to review over 20 websites in two pages when GSG is so low in rankings just to find out what they do different? My colleagues did 3 at best and you expected me to do that much? Not to mention that I got 30 minutes to do the assesment. Not possible at all.
- Unwilling to listen to constructive criticism. She will actively defend herself when I brought up accounts of bullying and say that it is because I may just be incompetent.
- Different people have different ways of doing things. I had to sit through a lecture from her for 2 hours and when I messed up just one tiny process, I could never stop hearing from her about it. I told her that I was a practical worker and therefore needed a lot more hands on but she said I was just whining and continued to berate my work.
- Will willingly throw you under the bus. So training is supposed to be longer. But she tried to condense it to become shorter and when I mentioned that it was a lot to process in one go and asked her to slow down. She mentioned that I just had to catch up and I was complaining because my other colleagues didn't have this issue (FYI: I asked my other colleagues and they said that they had longer training times). When I fought against it, she went up to higher management and said I was incompetent and useless (Despite even my colleagues saying that I'm already very fast in doing my work). This whole thing turned out to be because her boss was coming and she wanted to have a cohesive team. A new person threw a wrench in her plans like this and ultimately resulted in her throwing me under the bus.
So overall, I'd say that if you don't get this manager. I think you're great. If you do, leave now.
