Very disorganised interview process! I was referred to this position by an existing employee with a recommendation from a second employee at the manager-level who also encouraged me to apply. I was supposed to have an initial screening with a HR Recruiter. The screening was rescheduled with very late notice (within 1 hour of the screening interview). For the rescheduled screening, the HR Recruiter didn't call so I waited around for 30 minutes then sent an email to find out what had happened. They apologised and explained that they'd had a clash with internal meetings and we set a 3rd screening date and time, which they did show up for.
Unfortunately my original recruiter left the company and was replaced. The new recruiter kept saying I was applying for a 'Consultant' position. When I explained I was only interested in 'Senior Consultant,' the recruiter explained that someone with a PhD and no experience could only be considered for a Consultant position. I have no idea what he was talking about because I have two Masters degrees and 12 years of experience! When I tried explaining, it was very clear he wasn't listening.
Eventually I got to my interview and it was terrible. The Director-level interviewer made it very obvious she couldn't be bothered; she was disinterested in my answers and obviously distracted by something else going on. Her questions were also unclear and I had to keep clarifying what she was actually asking me. By this point I'd had such a horrible experience dealing with WM at each stage that I'd already decided I was going to apologise to the people who'd referred me and pull out of the process.
As it happens, I never heard back from WM. They ghosted me, even after I emailed for feedback and an update, which is an unprofessional way of dealing with an experienced candidate who had made it to the interview stage. It was at least consistent with my experience of WM and, looking back now and the treatment from my current employer during the interview process, I think I dodged a bullet.
