I applied in-person. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at HomeGoods (Austin, TX) in Nov 2015
Interview
The whole process was pretty simple. Filled out an application, had a mini-interview on the spot by manager. Then I received a call within a couple of days from the hiring manager, went in for a 1-on-1 interview. It was quick and fairly easy. Previous retail experience was not necessary but reputable, reliable references (3) are important in the hiring process. After a couple of more days, I followed up in reference to my work references and I was offered the position on the spot.

Interview
Super easy interview process. Hiring manager just asks you basic questions about job history and hypothetical situations involving customers and sales. I had no job experience and that wasn't a factor when I was being interviewed. Once employed you sign all your contract forms and have a day of training/watching workplace videos.
